The Canoe Challenge presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate successful networking to leverage resources to celebrate the wealth of our island’s coast. Leading the planning and execution of the Coast Week’s Canoe Challenge is Mrs. Reinette Thompson Niko of the Department of Commerce Coastal Management Program. The entire ASCMP staff together under Reinette’s leadership included a health challenge as part of this year’s canoe challenge.
Teams are challenging each other for the ”biggest loser” in combined weight. Other awards will be provided to teams who display best sportsmanlike conduct, best support team, best display of coastal stewardship, best uniform, best teamwork, and other areas to encourage participants to practice characteristics that build healthy coasts for a wealthier tomorrow.
